Welcome to Issue#134 of SIN.
There’s a lot going on in the news about “tariffs” these days. This is something that is definitely going to have some impact on sake exports to the USA and it’s something we are monitoring closely at SIN.
There are a number of factors at play and it is important to accurately understand how these tariffs will affect Japan and the sake industry. Panicked doomsday predictions will help no one and achieve little, so let’s sit tight for now and look at all the facts and possibilities as we figure out exactly what this will mean for sake moving forward.
While we would like to be able to talk more about how tariffs are affecting exports to the US now, and how they will likely affect them in the future, the truth is that nothing is remotely close to being settled yet. Different importers will address the challenge in different ways, but it is hard for them to make a plan when things are changing so quickly - and so drastically. Anything we report could be obsolete in a few days, weeks or months.
And so, just like everyone else, we at SIN are in a holding pattern to see how things develop and change, and how that will affect consumer pricing and sake availability. The only thing we can say for certain right now is that no one wants to be in this position.
We will report on this challenge as regularly as we can, as more information becomes available. Hopefully, the news will turn increasingly positive as time progresses.
And now for the news…

Investment Path For Sake Breweries
Japan- Leaf Publication, the company behind Sake World, a sake media portal and the sake NFT marketplace Sake World NFT, has now launched a brewery investment initiative under the banner, Sake World Sake Brewery Investments.
As readers will be aware, the sake industry would benefit greatly from some capital injection, however options are limited and the obstacles involved in investing in breweries are numerous and complicated.
Meanwhile, the number of sake breweries overseas is increasing as sake gains recognition as a viable investment. This new investment initiative was created to become a conduit between sake breweries and those interested in making small investments in the future of sake.
