The state of emergency continues in some of the major cities of Japan, consequently affecting the already plodding sales of sake. Of course the shutdown brings with it societal benefits in the prevention of COVID spread, but with restaurants and bars closing early and some not opening at all, it is further cause for concern for breweries already hurting from a disappointing 2020. Necessity being the mother of invention has seen some retailers become a little more creative by offering assorted package sets and tasting sets to move inventory. And at least one popular Kansai sake specialist store is offering a BYO service, where customers may bring their own 720ml or smaller bottle and fill it with their favorite sake from the store's stocks of 1800ml bottles that would normally be sold to restaurants and bars.
