Welcome to Issue #34 of Sake Industry News.
This issue was just about ready for print when we experienced the all-too familiar shudder of another dreaded earthquake. The epicenter was reportedly 60km offshore in the northeast just off the coasts of Fukushima and Miyagi Prefectures. So far it appears damage was minimal, no tsunami is expected, and at the time of writing no fatalities reported. Only a month out from the 10th anniversary of the Tohoku disaster of 2011, the quake serves as a stark reminder of the fragility of life in a country as earthquake-prone as Japan. Of course, as any news regarding the earthquake’s effect on any breweries in the area comes to light we’ll be sure to bring it to you.
