Welcome to Issue #36 of SIN.
The countdown is on till the cherry blossoms for 2021 start to appear with some experts predicting the sightings to begin any day now. Last year saw many refrain from gathering in parks for the annual cherry blossom viewing parties (hana-mi) due to the onset of COVID-19, but one wonders if Japan can resist two years in a row. It might just be too much to ask of a country that looks forward to this time of year with such fervor. Here at SIN we're not going to tell you what to do or how to spend your time, except to say whatever you do out there, make sure sake is involved somehow.
This week also marked the tenth anniversary of the Tohoku earthquake and tsunami disaster of 2011. Ten years on, it’s heartening to see the positive recovery so many breweries from the area, particularly Fukushima, have made since 2011. Here’s hoping to see continued growth and recovery for the area.
