Welcome to Issue #44 of SIN.
It has been an unexpectedly big week in the sake world and this is reflected in the abundance of information we tried to shoehorn into this newsletter feeling that much of it just couldn't wait till the next issue.
Unfortunately, it's not all good news in this issue with many parts of the country taking a battering from this year's bizarrely inconsistent "rainy season". And although we reported just two weeks ago that bars and restaurants were starting to open up as the state of emergency was lifted, with plans for restrictions to be almost completely eased by July 11, the government has unsurprisingly back flipped. Tokyo has been placed under yet another state of emergency. This fourth state of emergency will strategically conclude once the Olympics have finished. Other major areas of Japan are under a "quasi" state of emergency with alcohol and opening hours still being heavily restricted.
