Welcome to Issue #45 of Sake Industry News.

Well, we weren't sure if it was really going to happen for a while there, but the Olympics are well under way in Tokyo. 

An exciting event for sports lovers perhaps, but not a great boon to the already struggling liquor and hospitality industry when everything in Tokyo (and other major regions as of August 1) is under lockdown and COVID numbers continue to soar. Still, the National Tax Authority has set up some promotional booths for educating visiting media delegates on the finer points of sake, so any publicity is good publicity. 

Once the dust settles there'll be another moment of uncertainty as we wait to see what direction the government takes next in its counter measures against COVID, and how it will affect the sake, liquor and hospitality industry.
